Another reason to have TPMS

Post by KYAvion »

I never thought about fire as a reason for TPMS, but it’s another good reason. I know when I had a tire tear apart on me, I never would have known I was running on only three tires if the driver next to me hadn’t signaled me. Now I use a TPMS every trip.

Yes, that is on my wish list.

I bet a bearing was bad, creating a tremendous amount of heat...... I wonder if the tire blew as a result of the heat buildup, or finally melted enough to start losing pressure.

That situation would really stink........ everyone, please make sure you know the condition of your bearings. No such thing as “too much preventive maintenance”!!

What is a reasonable price to pay for a 4-wheel TPMS kit? They seem to range from $100 to $425, with a median around $275.

I also noticed in the fine print that some are not designed for use on trailers or rvs.

It can be found for less money if you shop around.

Thanks for the info. Amazon has your sensor model for $297.

There is another model that is a flow-thru design. This one allows you to adjust the tire pressure without removing the sensor. It sells for $295.

I looked at the flow through design too, but they are apparently pretty big. The flow through would be convenient, although it isn’t difficult to remove the small caps.

Hmmm.......make wonder of the effect on tire balance.

Yes, not sure if they’re so big to have an effect or not. Metal valve stems would be required, but I use those regardless.
