That's nuts! I wonder what happened during the wreck, and what year that vehicle is?

I just went out and looked at our Tahoe and the receiver is part of the bumper. Looks like from 2007 and up this is the part, and includes hybrids beginning in 2008...

I like that design much better. I would be good with that one.
Not sure of the year/model in the mentioned story, but I think it was earlier 2000’s.

Gary Potter wrote: Sun Feb 25, 2018 1:47 pm I revisited the stickers - the factory sticker just rt of the hitch receiver says 10000 w/ WD hitch and 1000 tongue weight with WD hitch. Does this mean hitch rating or Tahoe max towing weight? I'm hoping for the latter; means I can choose the optimum Avion model. Need to find a link to the possibilities.

Either way, tech support is on my to do list for tomorrow.

I'm wondering if this convo should be in the tow vehicles and hitches category?
Sounds like you may have the same receiver as me. Is the receiver part of the rear bumper, as opposed to being a hitch that's bolted underneath the frame? That is, like the pic in the link of my previous post?

That sticker you are looking at is the rating for the receiver, but NOT for your tow vehicle. For example, my hitch is also rated for 10,000lbs, but my Tahoe is only rated to tow 8,200lbs.

It appears the receiver is part of the rear bumper - 3 large bolts on either side bolt the bumper/receiver to the frame. Looked like they slid into the frame.

How did you come up with the 8200lb tow capacity? I'll look for an online calculator.

Question on forum usability - how do you quote part of a post?

If you see a post you'd like to quote, look in the upper right area of the post.. see the " symbol?

As Razorback said, click on the ellipses on the upper right, and then select quote.

As to my tow rating, it's listed in my manual.

Page 381, or 4-52 shows the tow capacities for a 2009 Tahoe.
https://justgivemethedamnmanual.com/wp- ... file=false

2008 Tahoe (NOT hybrid) is page 353, or 4-53.

2008 Tahoe HYBRID is page 35, or 4-2, and is showing 6200lb for RWD.

Where did you see a specified tongue capacity for the hybrid?

It's printed on the tow capacities on the sticker next to the hitch receiver. I suspect that's the max 'rating'. I'm still going to contact Chevy tech support tomorrow am.

Ok. That rating on the sticker on the receiver has nothing to do with the tow capacity of your vehicle. It's simply the rating for the receiver. For example, I could put a receiver that's rated for 20k lbs on my Tahoe, but I'm still limited to a max tow rating of 8200lbs.

I'd have to look again, but if I remember correctly the sticker on mine says 600lb tongue weight and 6,000lb tow capacity for weight carrying. Next to that it says the 1,000lb and 10,000lb ratings for WD.

The figure for you to pay attention to is the one in the manual, which appears to be 6200lbs for a RWD hybrid.
