1987 34W - reRubber Cool White Roof Coat Project
Re: 1987 34W - reRubber Cool White Roof Coat Project
While it has only been 2 months since I coated my roof, I have no leaks. My water issues now involve the lower belt line and the ferrous screws used in it. They were a right royal pain in the arse up front curbside. Since I'm replacing the floor up front, and putting stainless screws in (or bronze, seal under the heads, clear coat and leave the rubber belt off???) That's easy. For the remainder.......

When you applied the reRubber, did you touch up the sealant around areas such as your vent pipes, tv antenna, etc? Any issue getting the reRubber to adhere to any sealants?

Re: 1987 34W - reRubber Cool White Roof Coat Project
The plumbing vents had already been totally re-done ( viewtopic.php?f=9&t=179 ), so those had the Eternabond Alumibond around them. I cleaned those surfaces real well, then coated them with the Rubberized Primer. What is left of the antenna base was sealed pretty good with some brush-on, non-silicone stuff, so I just cleaned that area really good with a diluted solution of Simple Green and water, and a bristle brush, then coated it with the Rubberized primer. Once the Primer was done, I covered the entire area with the Cool Top Coat.
The main thing you need to do is make sure whatever is getting coated is clean, intact (nothing loose or peeling), and has NO silicone on it.

Thanks. Any idea how long left over product will last once opened and resealed? Just curious how long it might keep for futures repairs/modifications?

I do not have an answer for that...... but..... what I did with the leftover was transfer it to a smaller container that had less air space when filled. So far, so good. A good seal is most important.

It’s been about 2 years now since you last did your roof with reRubber. It looked great on your pic from about a year ago. Still holding up well? No cracking or peeling?

Re: 1987 34W - reRubber Cool White Roof Coat Project
Well, the last I looked a few weeks ago, it was still looking really good except for needing washed off. Tons of pollen in the air these days. I plan on using my pressure washer with the “delicate” tip to wash it off, let it dry good, then give it another coat or two.
I will inspect it good this week and let you know what I find.

How often do you plan on giving it another coat or two?

Re: 1987 34W - reRubber Cool White Roof Coat Project
This will be it.... what I have found is that when I applied this top coat it was a glaring bright sunny day. Once when I was looking at the roof on a cloudy day. I could see places where the white coating was not as thick as I would like and I could faintly see the grey coat that was under it. From the ground, and if I wasn’t kind of OCD in that area, it probably wouldn’t matter much. I sure couldn’t tell it needed anything when the sun was shining on it.
