Anyone running Reese Cam WD hitch? What bars?
Anyone running Reese Cam WD hitch? What bars?
Just curious as to what tension (load rating bars) anyone with trailers similar to my 90 30P might be running. I was setting up my hitch today in prep for a trip since I have switched trucks since my last trip. I moved down a load bar rating to 600 lbs and have a much better bow in the bars than before. It’s not perfect, but it’s close enough I think to get down the road a bit. Needs a bit of cam length adjustment for the saddles, but that is easier in a big parking lot than my driveway.

I don't see a sway control bar. Is it hidden in the pic or are you not using one?

Good observation. If you mean the pivot arm style with the tensioner and pads off to one side, no I don’t use one anymore. Properly centered and tensioned on the cams, these WD bars help to center things up (in theory). But I think upsizing to a bigger truck (RAM 2500/6.7) from the original tow vehicle (Surburban) was also a factor in sway not being to much of an issue. This will be my first trip with the lighter and smaller Ford however, so we will see how it does.
If I remember correctly, I also couldn’t fit the sway pad tensioner with this particular design as this mount conflicted on the frame.

We should probably move this post over to hitches. I just saw that listing in the index and it may fit better there. Can one of the moderators do that?

I made some slight adjustments before our shakedown trip by tilting ball back one notch, moving from 6 links to 7, and shortening the cam bars. Results on 360 mile test drive (1st leg) were very good. I might move the ball up later, but waiting for springs and weight distribution to settle. Overall, the move from 750 to 600 lb bars did improve things a bit it terms of the trailer bouncing around. I also ran 60 psi in trailer tires on 225 / 70 R16 LTX M/S tires.
I will get a good test tomorrow on the way home as winds are forecasted 10-20 with 30 mph gusts.

On my 30p I went from 1000 to 600# bars on the dual cam, it works great.
