1981 34V
We purchased our 1981 34V at a very low price. Timing played a big part as the summer was just about over and the odds of selling during the winter go way down. I was also able to low ball the price because I figured that since they didn't have the water, electric, propane, or batteries hooked up th...

Re: Tow vehicles
It has been a while since this thread was started. Since we now have a new-to-us Suburban I thought it would be a good time to post. We now own a 1995 Chevy K2500 Suburban with the 7.4L and 4L85E transmission with 3.78 gears. We have had it out on three different adventures towing our 1981 34V so I ...

Re: Leveling
On my 34V I have the OEM hand crank jacks on the four corners and the electric 'A'-frame jack to level and stabilize my rig. I also carry a selection of 2x6x18 blocks to help with the job. I try never to have any of the jacks in direct contact with the ground regardless of whether it is paved, grave...

Re: Airtstream quality
I too have wondered about the thought process function new AS owners use to agree to paying upwards of $100K for an RV that needs constant attention to keep everything working properly. One problem that has been cropping up a lot recently is many people are having problems with their 12-VDC side of ...

What is the best tow vehicle?
Recently on several different FB pages there have been a lot of discussions about tow vehicles. As I have said many times before, any time two RV'er's get together and start talking about tow vehicles you are going to have a minimum of three opinions as to what is best. Some go for the overkill with...

Re: 1968 C11
Back in the day those campers looked huge when they were on the back of a 3/4-ton regular cab truck.
On the back of a modern truck with 4-doors it looks rather small.
Isn't it amazing what perspective can do to perception?

Re: Tow vehicles
I took my 1993 K2500 Suburban hitched to my 1981 34V over a Cat scale. I know my Suburban weighed close to 7,000 lbs. with my wife, daughter, and miscellaneous junk and plunder inside. Total weight of the Suburban and 34V was 14,750 lbs. Which means fully loaded and ready to camp it weighs about 7,5...

Re: Brakes Locking Up
Since both occurrences happened after a long speed run I would be inclined to think they grabbed because the magnets were getting a really good purchase on the drums. I know that after a long speed run when I get into town onto surface streets I have to turn the gain way down to like 1 or 2. If I do...
