Window shield (Rock Guard)
Window shield (Rock Guard)
Here's a couple of pics of the finished shield. I used 4 layers of 1/8 PW, IT WEIGHS 24# and a final layer of light weight fiberglass cloth. 3 layers would be more then adequate and you probably don't need the fiberglass, just put on a base layer of epoxy resin.

Re: Window shield
That rock guard is absolutely incredible. What keeps the bending plywood from going back to its original shape?

Re: Window shield
Bending PW can be bought to bend creating a 4' cylinder or an 8' cylinder. It comes in 1/8",1/4" and 3/8" thicknesses. A laminating glue was used, a variation of standard white glue. It was rolled onto each sheet then all sheets were clamped to the form. 2 hrs later it's a solid panel. Standard PW can't be used as it has too much spring back even if you could bend it to the form. No heating steaming or soaking required.
We use it to build curved furniture and cabinets, circular islands etc. it's usually finished with a veneer of wood or laminate. Needless to say these are one off items.
