1987 34W - reRubber Cool White Roof Coat Project
1987 34W - reRubber Cool White Roof Coat Project
Well, I finally started on the roof project! I am going to coat the top of the trailer with reRubber's Cool White Top Coat, after I apply a coat of their Rubberized Primer.
Here is what I am going to use:
This evening after work, I got the hose out, a bucket, a good brush, and some Simple Green and went up on the roof to do some scrubbing to prepare for the Rubberized Primer. (Still pleased with the performance of the EternaBond tape!!). I hope to start coating tomorrow???? Maybe Tuesday evening.

Nice work. What's the feel like compared to an elastomeric coating (such as Koolseal). How long is the top coat expected to last?

Re: 1987 34W - reRubber Cool White Roof Coat Project
I think the stuff I originally cleaned off of the roof was Koolseal. This feels similar, but is "green".... and elastomeric. The primer coat is rubberized with tires that were kept from landfills. Not sure what Koolseal contains, but this stuff cleans up with soap and water.
I will find out some longevity information. I'll be surprised if it doesn't last a lonnnggggg time.
(Found out that longevity depends heavily on surface prep, not surprisingly. But 15-20 years is not out of the question. The reRubber company coated their driveways 10 years ago with the Rubberized Primer and are constantly running loaded forklifts over it..... it's still there!)
See the Cool Top coat Technical Data Sheet that I uploaded. The TDS for the primer is there, also:
http://www.aviontrailers.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=571
I noticed a huge difference in the felt heat of the roof coated with the primer compared to the white Top Coat. I could not keep my hand on the dried primer... not a problem with the Top Coat.

Looks GREAT! So jealous. Will have to wait until it cools down... this time of year in the desert ya don't wanna be on the roof!
Thx for taking the time to post photos... should encourage the rest of us to move forward. Be interested to see if inside temperature is affected.

I will find out from reRubber how long they would expect this stuff to last. My initial feeling is similar to when I first used Eternabond....... if it doesn't outlast ME, I will be shocked.quartzsitebruce wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 2:17 am Looks GREAT! So jealous. Here's an idea, considering that you live in the desert: since you wouldn't be fighting mosquitoes and other bothersome bugs, I would consider doing the work at night.... maybe even rent some high-powered worksite lighting?
Although I don't have any measured interior temps, here's a simple observation I had just yesterday: As we were getting the Avion ready to leave (pulled out at 12:30 PM, was clear, 85-90 and really steamy due to morning rains), the trailer was sitting in the direct sun as it always is, doors and windows closed. I went out to put something in the trailer and expected to feel that "normal" heat that I would have previously expected when I opened the door..... but it wasn't! It was more than bearable, it was very noticeable. This weekend will be a good test, with temps due to be 90-95, heat indexes 100+.

It is definitely hot today. Got back to the Avion and it is nice and cool inside. I know the roof coat is doing it’s job!

I agree that the white coating helps with temps. I did the white Koolseal on mine when I first got it and I noticed an immediate difference.
