Experimenting with batteries
Experimenting with batteries
At work, I service some disk storage devices that have UPS batteries in each frame. At 4 years, those batteries are replaced. I am "recycling" a few sets at home.
The batteries are 12V Panasonic, grouped together in sets of 4 and 5, wired in series within each enclosure. I opened a couple of these enclosures, rewired them in parallel, and put them on the charger.
I might try them in the Avion, or power some LED lights in my backyard storage shed. I am curious how long they can provide power.

Re: Experimenting with batteries
Interesting experiment. Is there a label showing how many amps each battery is?

Re: Experimenting with batteries
They are Panasonic UP-PW1245P1's.
On page 5 of this doc, it gives some specs.... I think they are 7.8Ah/20HR

Re: Experimenting with batteries
(Here’s an interesting, unrelated side note..... at work this morning, customer is in the process of either adding or replacing their UPS batteries for this large data center..... hundreds of these huge batteries..... label says “2V 1600Ah”! Now THAT is POWER!)

Re: Experimenting with batteries
Huge in this case was maybe 2-3 feet tall, a foot deep... for 2 volts. Not being a battery guy, that’s huge.

Re: Experimenting with batteries
That is quite large. Depending on composition, might make for great permanent hard mounted solar storage. 24 of those in series - parallel coupled with 5kw solar and you could power your house.

Re: Experimenting with batteries
I don't know how many are involved, but this data center consists of two separate "floors", 25,000 sq. ft. each..... enough UPS to power that for a while... big bucks!!
