Bunks and other stuff...

Post by RISK »

On Monday, we will head up to Colorado for an extended camping trip in the Avion. We needed a better sleeping situation for the the 4 of us which up until now has been:
A bed extension for the rear double bed that filled in the aisle and made a queen effectively (wife, 4 yo daughter and I) and a make shift cot on top of the bureau (8 yo son).

While this worked, we lost access to the large closet and all the drawers and cubbies in the lower part of the bedroom as well as the aisle.

After a lot of staring at the bureau and working up the courage to cut into my pristine trailer, I came up with the plan for the bunks.

Above is:
After bureau top removal, test fit of bunk, painting the parts.

Second coat goes on today and wife made the box cushions yesterday. Kids are fighting over who gets where but I can’t figure out which space they fighting for...

More to come...

What a great solution to that problem! That will certainly increase your kid's anticipation of using the Avion. They'll want to go to bed early!

Big Reveal!

Got the bunks painted and installed and also made new cabinet doors and drawer faces for most of the trailer. As I said in a previous thread, I wanted to update and brighten the interior without it feeling like a departure from its vintage. I feel like I did a fairly good job at having it be “70’s modern”...

What do y’all think?

Thanks everyone, it feels so right in there. Really looks like it could’ve been done back when.

I like to pretend Stanley Kubrick had an Avion commissioned and now I have it.

Anyone need some French Provincial hardware? I’ve got loads including a bunch of doors and some complete drawers.
If you want to restore I’m your guy...

Back to packing.
