Bargman L400
Re: Bargman L400
Something that is important here. MY latch, which was the model for the machinist, bears part number 10-40-51. This is the latch used on L400 locks from 1984 on. Ian, had I looked at the model of your trailer, staring right at me on your post, I would have realized that this latch wouldn't work for your lock. For which I apologize.
On pre 1984 locks, the latch part number is 10-40-50. Sadly, they aren't interchangeable. Mind you, I'll sell you one, but I'm not very sure of it's artistic charisma. I can't say I've ever seen a dead bolt mounted on a plaque. Andy Warhol may have found some interest in it to be sure, but unless your L400 was made 1984 or later, it would be useless to you.
Paul, NP, Once I have them in hand I'll pass along details and get shipping info.

Thank you, Salty.
I figure that THAT part is one thing I would HATE to have break and not have a readily available fix for it. Duct tape and a piece of 1x4 would be sooooo unsightly on such a beautiful trailer!

Doh!
Well I’ll continue to give everyone an extensive verbal lashing when they operate the handle wrong...
Thanks for try.

I have never had the latch on our Avion out/apart.....
So, that is the piece that is originally made from pot metal, and something on it breaks?

Re: Bargman L400
it's a two piece sandwich. Well, maybe more like a corn dog. The back half extends into the pot metal - and is bonded or pinned, which either wears away or breaks.
In the photo below you can see the round area where, I believe it's pinned. In any event, mine was beginning to wear and I was prompted by some FB posts where owners were complaining about breakage. Cut to the chase - I did my due diligence looking for replacement parts and came up with nothing. Photos of replacement part bags and used L400s not meant for Avions - the short latch version. hence my motivation.
For the record, I'm not making anything off this, the total for the latches was just under $677 all in.
