Spare

Post by Tarnished »

Can anyone tell me how to mount a spare on this rig? Does anyone know what piece might be
missing?

I cannot tell, and that is different from the spare tire carrier that we have.

Is that square plate loose on that shaft, or fixed?

The disk and plate are loose. Baffled.

Could that rod possibly go through a hole in the spare rim?

How does the spare typically bolt on the bumper? How's it originally done by the factory? My Avion doesn't have anything resembling a bumper mount bracket. Guess the original owner didn't purchase that option.

Tried that razorback then the sq plate doesn't fit. Can't tell if it's original or not. Been there a long time, and well done.

Is that rod and plate positioned that if the rod went through the center opening of the wheel, the plate could be tightened down over the center opening to keep the spare in place?

Are there any telltale marks on that vertical piece that would give a clue as to where the spare used to be positioned?

I have never seen a stock spare tire carrier up close.... do you think that bracket is a remnant of one of those? Any signs that would make you think it is a “custom” (home-made) carrier?

It's a very detailed and I believe original unit. The support pcs are well crafted and fitted and tie in well with the entire rear bumper storage compartments. Could it be after market, yes, but really expensive to carry a spare. I think I'll figure out how to mount a spare and have the necessary parts fabricated. The PO isn't at all helpful.
The second owner actually lived about 10 miles from me. I know his son thru business! He sold it to someone in Williamsburg Va. who sold it to the PO 5 yrs ago. The son remembers that it had a spare carrier on the rear bumper.

Could what you have be part of this factory spare carrier?

Ye, when I place a spare on the bumper that's how it appears.
