Lock cylinder for Bargman L-400
Lock cylinder for Bargman L-400
Hey gang,
I made an exciting discovery today, the lock cylinder for a Airstream KT (70-78) door lock fits and works on the Bargman L-400 (10-040) lock that is on my ‘78 Avion.
I am in the middle of refurbishing the KT lock and bought a new cylinder for it from Out Of Doors Mart, since the main assembly is at the chrome plating shop, I figured I’d just investigate whether the lock would fit and work.
Just a minor modification to lock and it works great.

Good find! I may need that some day.
Maybe you can post some pictures and/or detail of the modifications?

Re: Lock cylinder for Bargman L-400
Ok, here is a brief overview of what I needed to modify.
First pic shows the part I needed to modify. I had to grind the top corner of the “U” my screwdriver is pointing to.
I just needed to soften that corner a wee bit so the cylinder pin wouldn’t hang up.
Second pic shows the dremel and grinding stone I used. Probably should have walked all the way back to the shop for a smaller stone but with care, this worked fine. I literally just relived the corner into slightly rounded. Took about 2 minutes of grind, test, grind, test...
Third pic shows the exterior. There is a minor amount of slop, maybe a millimeter or so, but it’s better than a hole or a taped up hole. I’ll probably buy another lock and keep it as an emergency spare... then I’ll never need it!
